LOS REYES MAGOS | THE MAGI KINGS

La Epifanía es una fiesta basada en La Biblia, que celebra la visita que unos personajes interesantes conocidos como Los Magos, Le hicieron a Jesús cuando era un niñito viviendo con sus padres en Belén, Judea…según Mateo 2 y otras Escrituras.

Muchos Hispanos celebran 3 veces durante la temporada Navideña: Diciembre 25 (El nacimiento de Jesús y/o Santa Claus), Enero 1º (Año Nuevo), y el 6 de Enero, cuando Los Magos vinieron buscando a Jesús, Le adoraron y Le dieron regalos.

En Puerto Rico, la noche del 5 de Enero, los niños y niñas ponen yerba en cajas debajo del árbol de Navidad o debajo de sus camas, para alimentar los camellos montados por Los Magos en su viaje, y a cambio, la mañana siguiente, reciben regalos.

Hacia el final del Siglo XX, y hasta el presente, algunos adultos comenzaron a dejar regalos a cambio de “yerba”…

Epiphany is a Biblically based feast that celebrates the visit that some interesting characters known as The Magi, paid to Jesus when he was a little boy living with his parents in Bethlehem, Judea…according to Matthew 2 and other Scriptures.                         

Many Hispanics celebrate 3 times during the Christmas season: December 25th (The birth of Jesus and /or Santa Claus), January 1st(New Year), and the 6th of January, when The Magi came looking for Jesus, adored Him and gave him gifts.

In Puerto Rico, the night of January the 5th, children put grass or leaves in boxes under the Christmas trees or under their beds, to feed the camels The Magi are riding in their journey, and in exchange, the next morning, they receive gifts.

Towards the end of the 20th Century, and up to the present, some adults started leaving gifts in exchange for “grass”…
